I planted a garden primarily to get fresh herbs. I may have gotten a little carried away with the basil seeds.
Pesto is the only thing to be done. And if we are going to have a party, we may as well spend the 30secs to put it on the pretty platters.
If you have never had french bread dipped in balsamic vinegar, you have not lived life to its fullest. Also, fresh mozzarella is definitely superior, especially paired with tomato, red onion, and orange bell pepper drizzled in basil dressing.
1/4c vinegar
1/3c olive oil
1 garlic clove
pinch of salt
lots of salt and pepper to taste
1 handful fresh basil

Pesto is not the only thing to be done.
My two other favorite uses of basil:
-Caprese salad
-Use it instead of lettuce on a grilled chicken sandwich. Ingredients: One whole wheat bun, a little mayo or miracle whip on the bottom bun, then stack a grilled chicken breast, a grilled pineapple ring, and a large basil leaf. DELICIOUS.
I hope when we move back to AZ I can be invited to your awesome shindigs. A pesto party sounds amazing.
