Anchovies

I was inspired by A Beautiful Mess recipe to try making my own caeser salad dressing with anchovy croutons. I knew anchovies were in most commercial dressings and had read about their umami properties so I was intrigued.

I don't know if it was just this brand, but it still had the fish bones in the fish. After trying to remove the itty bitty things for 5 minutes, I said screw it and just dropped them in the blender and hoped for the best. I didn't feel them or choke on them so I assume it was ok.

Once again, the broiler beat me and the croutons ended up a little burnt. When will I learn that you HAVE to sit and watch bread in the broiler? Timers will deceive you. They still tasted pretty good though, especially considering they were slathered in anchovy oil.

Overall I give the recipe this face as a rating.

It was mildly interesting, not particularly delicious, but not bad. It is heavier on the fishy tasting side and felt time intensive for just condiments. I think I'll stick with buying the dressing, but I'm happy to learn where the anchovies are in the grocery store (by the tuna) in case they are called for in another adventure. Next culinary adventure, the cornish game hens that were on sale. Anyone ever cook them before? Have a recipe suggestion?

I believe that once canned, fish bones blend into powder easily, and are usually eaten. I think I read that somewhere. I have never had the courage to actually eat anchovies. I may just have to give them a try. I love your taste tester face!!!
