Grandma

My mum asked me to take some portraits of my lovely grandmother and I was happy to oblige. I posted the black and white shots on facebook because they are more dramatic, but here are some of the color versions too. I can never decide which I like better.

In the color, her face just radiates.

It in the black and white you really notice her features and smile.

Even though I almost always lean towards vibrant colors, Grandma looked really good with muted editing as well.

But then the black and white gets me every time. This one catches the light on her glasses and the lines in her face.

I asked to take a picture of her hands and she fussed that they were just old lady hands, but I think they are beautiful.

I asked her to do the Japanese V thing that they all do in pictures and she was sweet enough to oblige.

She is a very formal lady and it was hard to get her real personality to come out, but I grabbed my cousin Kaleb, he holds a special place in her heart because she watches him most afternoons. He brought out more of the Grandma I know.

This is one of my favorites.

I loved how she grabbed the tree branch in this one. Again, color or black and white? The nice pattern of the leaves come through in the color.

But this one makes her face pop more (and I tightened the crop). What do you all think?

By this time our light was gone so we came inside and snapped some pics.

I love this because my grandma ALWAYS wears an apron when she cooks.

This one isn't very fancy, and you can't see any faces, but it's Grandma in her element, giving treats to the little ones in her kitchen.

I'm doing a series (you know, eventually, when I get an infinite amount of time and creative energy) of people I love with objects that are meaningful to them. I asked her to grab something important to her and she eventually settled on this picture of my grandfather. It made the both of us tear up a little bit.

I'm so glad I had the chance to do this. She is a phenomenal woman.

I am with Todd...there was something in this post that made my eyes water as well. Thank you, my dear, for taking such precious pictures of my most precious mom! I LOVED the last one!...May I have a copy? I can't believe she actually let you take picture of her...a major accomplishment! Love you, Aunt B
